Measures of Physical Activity in Parkinson’s Disease (MAPD)

چکیده
Background: Previous research indicates that Physical Activity (PA) can help people with Parkinson’s (PwP) to manage their symptoms but they are less active than of the same age and in relation PA guidelines. Common measures include questionnaires or accelerometers. Accelerometers not routinely used clinical services. Little has been conducted on PwP perceived feasibility utility using body-worn Objective: This quantitative, observational study assessed concurrent validity, a questionnaire accelerometer capture newly diagnosed Parkinson’s. Methods: Twenty-four participants were recruited from service for at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, UK. The was remotely by postal, telephone email correspondence. Participants wrist-worn (GENEActiv™) one week, completed International Questionnaire (IPAQ-S) about week’s PA, Likert-style these measures. Energy expenditure (metabolic equivalents – METs) calculated compared Spearman’s correlation. Descriptive statistics summarised levels WHO guidelines based responses questionnaire. Results: sample (n=24, 17 males, 7 females; mean 72.4 years, SD ± 9.7; disease duration 1 years) showed significant moderate correlation between total weekly energy (rs = 0.55, n = 24, p =.003). Overall, above (IPAQ-S 453 mins per range 0 3010, 718); GENEActiv™ 265 - 794, 217). agreed ‘the easy fill in’ (median response 2 agree, IQR 2) disagreed statement ‘I would rather previous week wear sensor week’ 4 disagree, 2). Conclusion: Findings suggest it is feasible introduce measure patients remotely. There wide variation when determining PA. Validation device against gold standard intensity needed establish criterion validity. Impact: work contributes understanding patient experience preferences remote monitoring use plan provision support

Assessing physical activity using wearable monitors: measures of physical activity.
BACKGROUND Physical activity may be defined broadly as "all bodily actions produced by the contraction of skeletal muscle that increase energy expenditure above basal level." Physical activity is a complex construct that can be classified into major categories qualitatively, quantitatively, or contextually. The quantitative assessment of physical activity using wearable monitors is grounded in ...

heteropoly acids (hpa) and their salts have advantages as catalysts which make them both economically and environmentally attractive, strong br?nsted acidity, exhibiting fast reversible multi-electron redox transformations under rather mild conditions, very high solubility in polar solvents, fairly high thermal stability in the solid states, and efficient oxidizing ability, so that they are imp...

One of the characteristic symptoms of patients with Parkinson Disease (PD) is a rigidity of movement. These symptoms disappear after administration of Levodopa. However, the long-term use of levodopa causes involuntary movements (dyskinesia). A proper diagnosis requires an automatic, unsupervised method for the detection and classification of levodopa induced dyskinesia. The main problem, howev...

The American population weighs too much. That is so well documented; it does not even need a citation. And for all the millions of pages of research and gray literature devoted to the topic and all the complex reasons for American obesity, we know that Americans tend to eat too much, and too much of the wrong things, while not exercising nearly enough. With the girth of America growing, taking ...
متن کاملDisease Activity Measures in Paediatric Rheumatic Diseases
Disease activity refers to potentially reversible aspects of a disease. Measurement of disease activity in paediatric rheumatic diseases is a critical component of patient care and clinical research. Disease activity measures are developed systematically, often involving consensus methods. To be useful, a disease activity measure must be feasible, valid, and interpretable. There are several cha...
